Non Payment Of Bursary: Students Give Ogun Govt. 14 Days Ultimatum
The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), on Monday, gave the state government 14 days ultimatum to settle the 2016, 2017 and 2018 bursary and award of scholarship to students from the state.
The Association, through its excos revealed that it had written series of letters to the state government on the issues but to no avail.
They lamented that no single student in the State who is also an indigene has ever been awarded a scholarship since the emergence of Amosun's administration in 2015 despite their unrelenting support for him, adding that their support has instead been rewarded with disappointment.
In a statement issued by the association, the students described
the payment of bursaries and award of scholarship to them on merit as the only dividend of democracy they want from the state government.
Those who signed the statement were the National President of the association, Com. Peter Adejobi, National Senate President, Sen.Ayankola Muh'sabit, Director Of Bursary, Sen.Ajibade Moruf and the General Secretary Com.Blessed Ogunleye.
The statement read "The Central Executive Council and Senate House of NAOSS writes on behalf of members across the nation to notify your office (the governor) of the plan of our members to stage the mother of all protests against the non payment of 2016 to 2018 bursary and inability of your administration to award scholarship to students of Ogun state origin since your assumption of office till date.
"There is no doubt in our minds that the only dividend of democracy that the generality of the students of ogun state origin could benefit from your government is the payment of bursaries and award of scholarship to NAOSSITES on merit, but it's so disheartening that all constructive approaches used on these issues were treated with levity."
"Sir, if our allegation of non-payment of bursary and award of scholarship to students of Ogun State origin against your administration since 2014 lacks merit, we humbly challenge your government to publish and submit a comprehensive list of beneficiaries in the last 5years.
"Mr Governor sir, the architect of modern ogun state, could the opinion of your critics that the payment of bursary in the penultimate year of your first administration was done to buy naossites support for your second term be true," they quized.
They continued "We have been pushed to the wall and the only option we are left with is to speak in the said language that the government understands
"Your excellency, to avert the unwanted shut down of commercial activities in the state capital, within the time frame of 14 working days of the submission of this letter we urge you to implement the payment of bursaries and award of scholarship to students of ogun state origin and our colleagues at the nigerian law school without further delay", they concluded.
