NANS Appeals To Ogun Govt. To Convert Abandoned Schools To Vocational Centres
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), yesterday appealed to the Ogun Government to convert some of the uncompleted and abandoned proposed model school buildings in the state to vocational training centres.
Mr Azeez Adeyemi, the National Public Relations Officer of the association, gave this admonition during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Modupe Mujota, at her office in Abeokuta the State Capital.
Adeyemi, in company of other NANS members, commended the state government on the laudable proposed model school buildings, stating that the association had however noticed that most of the buildings were not in use.
"We commend the government on the laudable proposed model school buildings being constructed across the local governments in the state.
"We have noticed that many of these buildings are not in use for the purpose they were built, reasons best known to the government," he said.
The NANS spokesperson additionally appealed to the commissioner to prevail over the management of the four ICT polytechnics in the state to urgently lift the ban placed on the Student Union Government (SUG) of the institutions.
The institutions are DS Adegbenro ICT polytechnic, Itori, ICT Polytechnic, Igbesa, ICT Polytechnic, Saapade and Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu Igbo
He said that the association was concerned about the challenges faced by students from these four institutions , ranging from multiple charges and physical assaults.
"We understand how volatile and sensitive any confrontational struggle embarked upon by Nigerian students in the state, especially at this political trying period.
" We appeal through your good office to make our achievable requests become achieved urgently, " he said.
Responding, Mujota assured the students leadership of prompt action on the school managements that placed ban on its respective SUG.
She also assured the NANS leadership of urgent actions on the payment of bursary of indigenous students of the state, assuring that government would try to moderate hike in tuition fees .
