OSUN2018: OSUN REC VISITS WORSHIP CENTRES TO PREACH AGAINST BUYING, SELLING OF VOTES.




Osun State Resident Electoral Commission, Mr. Segun Agbaje yesterday  warned resid
ents  and political contractors against buying and selling of votes before,during the forthcoming September 22nd governorship election in the state , saying whoever violate the act will face the wrath of the  law.

Mr. Agbaje stated this while going around all worship centres of both Christianity and Islamic in osogbo, osun state capital on Sunday.
He insisted that the act of buying or selling of votes is criminal offence that is punishable under Nigeria law.
In his address to the congregation at the church Sunday service and Assalatu at Nasfat along west bye ring road Osogbo vowed that, the commission will give credible election that Nigeria hasn’t witnessed before with the Osun State governorship election.
“The whole world is eyeing Osun State over this election which many of them are partnering with the agencies so that we can have free and fair election” Rec stated.
Agbaje said that a punishment would be meted to any person found to be selling or buying votes before and during election.
He lamented that vote buying and selling is very embarrassing to the commission. ”We shall do all within our reach to stop the menace.” he said
He stressed that, “ There is a one -year jail term , N 100,000 fine , or both , for any person who makes a false statement , fails to give information or facilitate the registration of a fictitious person ”.
“Jail term , N 500 ,000 fine , or both , awaited anyone who induced or yield to inducement of any kind by any person to vote during the exercise.
The official, said that the offences contravened the provisions of the Electoral Act , 2010 , as amended and he implored the congregation of the church to provide information to help the commission through the police to apprehend anybody that err.
He said that INEC is working with security agencies to prevent political parties from hijacking the exercise .
Clerics at all places visited commended the bold step taking by the umpire to conduct free, fair and credible election
Also  pledge their support of continuous campaign in all their programs to the members of their worship centres.
