PTECSSAN Protests Over Sacking of Executives

*Management Debunk It As False Allegation



The Private Telecommunications and Communications Senior Staff Association Of Nigeria, PTECSSAN,  staged a protest on Monday at Ita Eko, Abeokuta, over unnecessary sacking, victimisation and enslavery of thier members by Ison Bpo international limited.

According to the report gathered,  the Ison Bpo International Limited with no notification sacked all the excutives of the union as a result of the worker's fight against victimization and the failure of the company to pay the salaries of thier members.

The Executives of the union were carrying placard with various inscriptions on the placard, "No To Non Standard Work,  Yes To The Union, No To Slavery  Sto Hiding Under Outsoursing and  Sub- Contracting To Enslave Workers Trade Unionism Is Worker's Right, Stop Victimizing our members."

While addressing the Journalists, the General Secretary of PTECSSAN, Comrade Okonu Abdulahi lamented over the ill-treatement  levelled against their  co members by the Indians, saying that it is an harassment on the part of them.

His words "We were fired with no reason, this is not their first time,  they can not just wake up one day and  sack their employees without any reason, adding that, on the day of the departure no dime will be given to the depressed workers.

He said, "Indians can not come to our country and be victimizing and harrassing us,  we will not agree to that, we have rights to freedom of Association, if they can not respect our rights then they should leave this country for us because we belong to this country (Nigeria).

"We wrote letter to their management about the ill-treatment of my co-members and with no notification laid off all the list of the names we sent  to them and we also recieved email from them that they have relocated to Ibadan and Ilorin.

"Since we have started,  we have not been enjoying working with the indians,  it has not  been  so easy for us here, we are being enslaved by them, this is our country and they can not continue to disrespect our fundamental rights beacuse we are not slaves, we work and we should be entitle to salaries and conducive environment.

"Even after we have been laid off with no reason they refused to compensate us, Government should please  come to our aid and free us from this indians that have failed to respect our  fundamental human rights, we are not slave, we say no slavery"

Meanwhile, the head of HR, ISON BPO International Limited West Africa, Steve Obasohan while reacting noted that the company didn't sack any staffs, saying that it was a fake news by the protests.

He added that if anyone could be sacked it may be as a result of disciplinary issues.

His words "We didn't sack any of our staffs,  we have been maintaining cordial and absolute relationship with them, they are enjoying us and we are also enjoying them.

"We are unawared of everything, a separate union has written us, we set an appointment and the meeting is yet to come up, we dont recognise any unionism apart from the one that sent letter to us and we have replied them"

He said, "We didnt sack anyone, we have been able to maintain excellent  relationship  with our employees and if anyone is sacked it can be one  or two employees by the disciplinary committee, and salaries are paid on time.

"We are awared that they wanted  to have a meeting with us but we have set an appointment for the meeting and so we can disscuss what need to be discussed but we are yet to meet for the discussion.

"We have no reason not  to meet with them, we have replied to their letter even in less than 24hours they sent the letter, we always listen to our employees,  it is best practised for people to bergain even the law requires that"

The head of HR said apart from the conduciveness of the staffs enjoy  they also provide monthly bonuses, transportation and they cover all insurrances for their employees.

He added that "We also award some staffs based on merit  as part of our policies and programmes we created for our employees, we have absolute relationship with them, our employees remains our number one priority so we can not sack them unless if some of them have usual disciplinary issues"
